Tampa Downtown Partnership Marks 25 Years of Leadership

TAMPA, Fla. (June 16, 2011) — The Tampa Downtown Partnership marks its 25th year of existence on June 21, 2011 at the Tampa Convention Center (333 S. Franklin Street).  The 25th anniversary celebration will begin at 11:30 a.m. with registration and networking followed by lunch at 12:00 p.m.

The Tampa Downtown Partnership will take this opportunity to look back over the past quarter of a century at the organization’s impact on downtown Tampa as well as glance forward to the future.  Joining the Partnership in this celebration will be mayors from the founding of the Tampa Downtown Partnership.  They include Mayor Sandra Freedman, Mayor Dick Greco and Mayor Pam Iorio.  Each of the previous mayors will take part in a question and answer session about their terms leading this city and the impact their administrations had on the downtown area.

Sharing his vision for the future, Mayor Bob Buckhorn will follow his predecessors in office by addressing his vision for downtown Tampa. Mayor Buckhorn will offer the keynote address for this event.  Mayor Buckhorn is approaching his first 100 days in office.

The Tampa Downtown Partnership will use its 25th Anniversary Luncheon and Meeting to install its 2011-2012 Board of Directors, Executive Committee and new Chairman Mr. Terry Aidman with Cherry, Bekaert & Holland.  Mr. Aidman is a long-standing member of the Tampa Downtown Partnership and has served the organization in a variety of positions.

Mr. Aidman follows Mr. Bill Gillen with the law firm of Shook Hardy and Bacon, LLP.  Remarking on Mr. Gillen’s upcoming departure as chairman, Christine Burdick stated, “It has been an absolute pleasure working with Bill these past 12 months.  I know that even though his term as chairman is ending, his commitment to the Partnership and downtown is only just beginning.”  Burdick also stressed the Mr. Aidman will carry the Partnership forward into the next 25 years focusing on the issues that will bring downtown Tampa to the “next level.”

To commemorate this anniversary, the Partnership has created a special section on its website.  The address is www.tampasdowntown.com/25years.  The section features news about the organization and downtown Tampa.  It also highlights the sponsors for this year’s event.
