15th Annual Downtown Development Forum
“2011 –New Directions, New Opportunities, New Ways of Thinking”

On March 18, 2011, the Tampa Downtown Partnership held the 15th Annual Downtown Development Forum at Hyatt Regency Tampa.

The Downtown Development Forum is an annual opportunity for the community to hear from leading experts in a variety of fields.  This year’s forum continued this tradition with experts in the arenas of transportation, commercial office, professional sports, education, multi-family housing and hospitality.  Additionally, there was a preview of the Tampa Downtown Partnership’s bi-annual Downtown Tampa Worker and Resident Study.

The featured speaker for this year’s Development Forum was former St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker. Mr. Baker is now the Director of USF Innovation Partnerships.

The Tampa Downtown Partnership has compiled the PowerPoint presentations made during the event for review.  Those speakers who presented a PowerPoint presentation have granted permission to the Partnership to feature the presentation on this page.  To view the presentations click on the name of these speakers highlighted below.

Metro Movement: Transportation Panel

Despite the defeat of two astoundingly forward thinking, billion dollar transportation projects relative to downtown this past year, there was a great amount of awareness and education about our future transportation needs.  And much “movement” is still occurring in the realm of transportation in our region.  A panel of four agency representatives will report how we are moving forward.

Ray Chiaramonte, Metropolitan Planning Agency (no presentation)
Bob Clifford, TBARTA
Dr. Steve Polzin, Center for Urban Transportation Research, HART board member

Well-known for his role in revitalization efforts, St. Petersburg Mayor Baker's priorities, while in office were supporting schools; encouraging economic development, particularly in the urban core; improving the city's neighborhoods; ensuring public safety; and enhancing the overall efficiency of city government.
